Just moved out of SLO-town into my new digs in San Jose. I’m situated pleasantly across from the San Jose State University (SJSU) campus which I will be attending as of tomorrow. Despite the ridiculous bullshit that is higher academia I’m commited to finishing my degree. Aside from moving, here’s what I’ve been up to this week:
San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz was this weekend: David Duchovny was there. Also I got a bunch of reading done.
Given that I have no internet in my apartment (and probably won’t for a while) I spent my time getting some pop-philosophy under my belt. A good read, I’d recommend it. Robert Pirsig’s take on “existence-as-we-know-it” reminds me a bit of Nietzche’s. In the end it sounds like he is champion “quality” or the pursuit of “excellence” as the source of all things (not good, god, spirit or mind). Following this a bit reminds me of Nietzche’s pursuit of the “overman” where he suggests that morality is variable and that the only true “good/virtue” in life is the improvement of man or the pursuit of “excellence”.
Also, I’ve been out-of-touch with the Captain for a while since I haven’t had regular internet access. Just got a hold of this little gem. I’ll be interested in what he has to say about this radical restructuring of government. Hat tip, of course, to Justin McCarthy who brought it to my attention (since I hadn’t checked in with the Captain in a while).
Also, I am in possession of a growing selection of single malt scotches; tasty.
